My friend had to have an emergency gall bladder surgery today. That got me to thinking…. why the extra parts, Divine Being/God? Tonsils, wisdom teeth, appendix, gall bladder, foreskin and some would argue pubic hair are all completely worthless. I googled “purpose of the appendix” today and wikipedia gave me this:

Given the appendix’s propensity to cause death via infection, and the seeming perfect health of those who have had their appendix removed, the biological purpose of the appendix has mystified scientists for some time.

So can’t we just evolve already and get rid of all this fuss? I’m just sayin.

All In a Year

So much has happened this past year. I mean to keep up with my blog. I really do. Stuff comes up and I end up not doing it.

Yesterday was Gage’s first birthday. It’s hard to comprehend. On one hand, it feels like time crept by. That’s partly because I was a stay at home mom. On the other hand, it feels like it went by in a flash. Having a child screws up your entire sense of time anyway though.

We moved to Louisiana a few weeks ago. It has taken alot of adjusting but we are slowly coming out of the fog. We loved Austin, TX. It just didn’t love us. Neither one of us could get jobs that we loved that payed us well enough to stay living there. I figure we’ll get back on track and pay off all of our debt and then re-evaluate. So that’s the update on us. Things are looking up. They weren’t for going so great there for a while.

If your Mom has to remind you to “update your blog already, woman”, it’s not a good sign. Sorry, guys. I just get all consumed with this kid and the day that I don’t get on here and update like I should. I have Gage’s blog too and I guess I just bit off more than I could chew with two blogs and a mommy message board that I obsess over as well. Those girls keep me sane.

Anyway, let’s see here. Not much to report really.

***The kid is key-ute with a capital K. He is becoming such a little individual now. I love spending time with him. Pictures at the end.

***I have decided to take up sewing because I need one more expensive hobby that will drive everyone (myself included) insane. My other hobby, photography, is still on hold waiting for that awesome camera. Oh and remember that Roller Derby thing? That really panned out. I’m going to borrow a friend’s sewing machine to see if my vision exceeds my talent. I am actually decent at it, I’ll buy my own. I’ll keep you posted.

***I went to visit my family and friends in Louisiana at the beginning of July and I will be going again at the end of this month. I am going this time to purge my mother’s house of all things pre-1985. Here’s to hoping that I come out of it alive and she and I are still speaking.

*** I have been doing really good with cooking around this place. I started buying meat and freezing and thawing it. I know that sounds so dumb because “duh, that’s what you do.”, but I never have so now I am. It really is handy.

Go look at your gas gauge in your car. There is an arrow above the little gas tank picture that tells you what side the tank is on! How have I gone my whole life not knowing that? You are welcome!
